Team Personalities

Humans are complex beasts. If you manage everyone as you’d want to be managed, you’re in for a nasty surprise.

A few years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Dr Larry Little from the Eagle Centre for Leadership, and immediately put his methodology into practice. Dr Little has created a personality assessment for companies that is simple to use and engaging for your colleagues. (BBC-style disclaimer “other personality assessments are available!” – but I like this one best)

Why?

Understanding how people communicate, and how they think is crucial for healthy working relationships.
The quick test helps you to better understand the tendencies of you and your colleagues, and how to communicate more effectively with them.

What

The “Make a difference” test is free to use and takes less than 10 minutes to use.
Answer 20 questions and you will receive a numeric score against four different personalities represented by animals (Monkey, Lion, Camel, Turtle).
Their book/website then shows you how these four “animals” see one another, and advises the best ways for them to interact.

Examples

  • The organised & detail-focused “Camel” sees the “Lion” as impatient.
  • The calm and deliberate “Turtle” sees the “Monkey” as chaotic.
  • The “Turtle” may not talk much, but when they do talk you know they’ll have great insights.
